Karen May is a founding member, CFO and director of XOCEAN, a pioneering ocean data collection firm transforming the field with uncrewed surface vessels powered by robotics and AI.
May’s role at Louth-based XOCEAN is instrumental in advancing sustainable ocean management. By reducing the environmental footprint of ocean data collection, XOCEAN cuts emissions by a factor of 1,000 compared to traditional research vessels, while primarily supporting the renewable energy sector.
Fundraising has become a central part of her role, where she strives to secure optimal funding and partnerships for XOCEAN’s future. In its latest series B funding round in June, XOCEAN successfully raised €30 million which is to be used to accelerate international growth and to drive further innovation.
Last year, XOCEAN was named the eight fastest-growing technology company in Ireland and the fastest-growing ocean clean tech company in Europe.
