ENTREPRENEUR AWARD

Fidelma McGuirk is the founder and CEO of Payslip, the Westport-based global payroll technology company she originally started to simplify payroll for multinational employers. A career-long advocate for building enterprise-grade software from outside traditional tech hubs, McGuirk has combined deep payroll and HR domain expertise with a product-led mindset to grow Payslip into a recognised fintech scale-up serving major international clients. Her leadership blends commercial rigour, a strong commitment to ethical technology, and a visible role in mentoring other women founders.

Under her stewardship, Payslip has continued a period of rapid commercial and product momentum in 2025. The company announced a major product milestone on 9 September this year, with the launch of “Payslip Alpha,” an AI-powered product suite designed to assist payroll teams with automation, insight and secure, compliant decision support. The launch emphasised practical, privacy-aware AI features – including assistive tools and intelligence layers aimed specifically at the complexity of global payroll –  and signalled Payslip’s intention to make responsible AI a core differentiator for payroll technology.

That product focus rode on strong business performance. The company has more than doubled turnover, achieving 102 per cent growth in annual recurring revenues in the two years to the end of December 2024, and sustaining a 70 per cent compound annual growth rate (CAGR). This commercial traction under McGuirk’s leadership has fuelled further investment in product R&D and international expansion during 2025, with the company on target to reach an earlier forecast of €15 million in sales by year-end. To date, Payslip has secured approximately €14 million in funding from backers that include Tribal VC, Frontline Ventures, MiddleGame Ventures and Mouro Capital.

McGuirk’s leadership and Payslip’s innovation have been recognised across the fintech ecosystem throughout 2025. Payslip was shortlisted in multiple categories at prominent industry awards, reflecting both the company’s technical advances (notably in AI) and its impact on payroll operations globally. McGuirk herself continues to be a sought-after speaker and commentator this year, discussing scaling from a regional base, ethical AI in payroll, and how distributed teams can win enterprise customers – bringing visibility to Ireland’s growing fintech scene and inspiring other entrepreneurs outside urban centres

Beyond product and revenue, McGuirk has been a steady voice on responsible AI and governance in payroll. In 2025, she authored and contributed to pieces and panels on eliminating bias, ensuring compliance, and building employee trust when embedding AI into payroll workflows — work that has helped shape how payroll vendors and customers think about risk and value when adopting automation. Her public stance on ethics and practical implementation has broadened the conversation from pure capability to dependable, people-centred deployment.

McGuirk has repeatedly championed building a global company from the West of Ireland, proving that high-growth software services and fintech ventures can scale outside main hubs while competing for enterprise clients worldwide. She also invests time in mentoring other founders and participating in leadership programmes and industry juries, amplifying her impact beyond Payslip and contributing to a more inclusive startup ecosystem.

In entrepreneurship, Fidelma McGuirk is that rare combination of commercial success, product leadership and principled innovation in 2025: launching an industry-focused AI product suite, delivering double-digit ARR growth milestones, earning industry shortlists and driving the ethical AI conversation in payroll. Her work in 2025 cements her reputation as an entrepreneurial leader who scales technology responsibly while expanding opportunity for founders and talent across Ireland and beyond.
